Diving in Costa Rica offers a chance to swim with manta rays and reef sharks, white tip orgy, while admiring the huge roar and schools barberfish chancho gather around the many rocky islands in the Pacific Ocean. Although it is not considered a diving destination in conjunction with the Red Sea and Papua New Guinea (there are not many places - so beware if there is no dirty diving), Costa Rica, scuba diving and much excitement and enthusiasm of the beginner. The awards are among the most sensitive of dive certification in the world. And in addition, opportunities for adventure on the water, more than most other places, and turns surfing, mountain biking, fishing, jungle canopy tours, volcano climbing and horseback riding just to name a few. I spent a year in Costa Rica, Playas del Coco, to be exact, where I got my practice during the summer in Salt Divemaster dive center. Patrick and Sandra, the Swiss owners, run a good deal, and incredibly nice and knowledgeable about the diving Coco - they are also the fastest boat in the diving area. During my time working in detention and the manta rays pigeon huge, snorkeled the whale shark, saw a ten foot bull shark (in a real heart-stopper), swam next to a mother humpback whale and calf, and saw a myriad of other marine organisms.
In fact, the density of marine life are the things that sets scuba diving in Costa Rica in the Pacific Ocean off places in the Caribbean, including the Gulf Islands of Roatan and vaunted Utila. Utila dive after a week I am very disappointed in the number of animals observed. Many are very small and out of coral, which was nice, there was not much action. If diving Costa Rica, the action is generally not a problem.
