Villa Mandalay Review

There is a little piece of land, off the northern coasts of Europe, that for centuries has successfully bred a category of individuals with a talent to make “home” far away from home, and so with a style, elegance and a comfort characteristic of their originating land. The owners of Villa Mandalay have been granted this talent and such is their home.

Villa Mandalay

Behind the small white doors that separates the lively atmosphere of the surrounding neighbourhood from the peaceful grounds of Villa Mandalay, one steps, with surprised and enchanted relief, in a garden that could at first glance belong to the English countryside.

The tropical air sets back quickly though the feeling of England remains and carries on through the house with exquisite charm.

Villa Mandalay - In the hallway, numerous openings lead to the many rooms and levels of the house.

Directly across the entrance is the large and much comfortably furnished living room dotted with a couple dining table for elegant indoor dinner parties.

Books, classic prints and artwork line the walls. Flowers are present as much in vases as in the choice of textile used for the furnishing, thus asserting the essence of the place, one of generous abundance.

The room opens, through French doors, to the terrace where outdoor dining can be enjoyed, with a pleasant view to the expanse of the verdant grounds.

In the wake of the living area, an opening to the side leads to the kitchen, a cook’s haven, and its cosy dining corner.

Adjacent is yet another less formal dining area and the children living and play room, where a large sofa invites
for “quiet media” time and countless toys to keep little ones entertained.

The bedrooms, five in total, are found at various end of the main house and furthermore within the garden, each with quaint décor, a “liberty” flair and much privacy.

The first guestroom is a large suite with it own private study and en suite bathroom, situated in the same wing as the playroom, with lovely views to the garden and pool.

Nestled back towards the entrance of the property are two more guest bungalows dressed with grand four-poster beds, sofas, comfortable club chairs, private study nooks and en suite baths. Both open onto a little terrace with, here again, open views to the grounds and pool.

Back to the main house, off the hallway, a set of stairs leads up to the master bedroom. Comfort, peace and quiet are here again an evident priority. The bathroom nestled between the various rooflines and lush greenery is a welcoming and reposing shelter to wear off the day and prepare for long glamorous or chatty evenings.

It is shared with the children’s bedroom and dressing, entered through a small door to the side.

Finally one reaches the last level of the house, with a diverging set of stairs of the master suite’s landing. It is home to the study, hidden amongst the towering height of majestic leafy evergreens. Persian rugs, abundant literature, a large desk, comfortable chairs and a day bed make this room the perfect retreat for anyone in search of peaceful inspiration or simply a stolen moment from the hectic rhythm life can reach at time, even away.

Close to everything, elegant, private, spacious, kids friendly and extremely comfortable, Villa Mandalay is a wonderful holiday retreat, perfectly suited for large groups or families.
