Dubrovnik - Croatia - Places To Visit - Travel Advice

Places To Visit or Things To Do In Dubrovnik - Croatia - Travel Advice

Dubrovnik -Croatia is a World Heritage Site and the Queen of the Adriatic. It has got many interesting places to visit or things to do during your visit. Read on this blog to know more about the Dubrovnik - Croatia

Dubrovnik is the city of Dubrovnik - Neretva county. It is located at extreme south of Croatia, situated at 495 km. of the capital Zagreb, about 216 km. Split and near the border of Montenegro and Serbia. We can be reached by land (road and rail), air (airport) and sea (port) where he receives daily boarding cruises.

Dubrovnik, the pearl of the Adriatic, is one of the fashionable cities in Europe. On our recent trip to Croatia discover the beauty of this charming city on the Dalmatian Coast is no longer a secret to anyone. The worst thing: a lot of tourism in a few square meters. The best: not disappoint. It is a beautiful city (a World Heritage Site) in a unique setting.

Dubrovnik - Croatia History - went from being dominated by the Byzantines, Venetians, Hungarians, Turks and Austrians. Long conflict with Venice for control of trade, and today for the title of the Pearl of the Adriatic. Destruction suffered several attacks by earthquakes and war, the last was the conflict in former Yugoslavia. Most of the destroyed buildings were rebuilt and there is no visual trace of that event.

The medieval town is completely surrounded by a wall awesome. The wall, as the city, is in excellent condition, well maintained and clean, safe and quiet as well. Dubrovnik has many very beautiful nearby islands, Lokrum and Lopud as to name some famous. The landscape is idyllic between the edge of the beautiful Adriatic Sea and the slopes of the mountain. There is plenty of vegetation and trees that gave the name to the city (oak forest).

To enter the city there are two gates, the Pile Gate and the Gate Stari Grad (Old) and each entry has to climb the wall. Pile Since we entered the main street Placa (former Stradum) where we left the Franciscan Monastery, right Onofrio Fountain and near Spasa Church. We will climb the wall of almost two kilometers and 25 meters to go around the city. Walking the gravel road we reach the door plate Stari Grad and Luza Square, the most aristocratic of the city. During the walk we see the buildings and Baroque palaces and many locals.

Tip: I recommend doing the tour of the wall (70 Kuna: about 10 euros) upon entering the city to enjoy the unique panoramic view and appreciate during the course of the 16 towers that houses as well as various strengths, streets, buildings and discover beaches.

In Luza Square have access to the Sponza Palace and next to the Church of San Blas with the Statue of Orlando in front. Between the two buildings and in front of the door plate can not miss the Clock Tower. Like other noteworthy buildings have, to the left of the square (looking at the Clock Tower) through the Sponza Palace, the Dominican Monastery with a beautiful church. To the right of the square we can get closer to the Rectors Palace was the seat of government and the Cathedral of the Assumption, both are important monuments of the city.

To complete the tour we go to some museums like the Maritime Museum or the Ron Brown, and also take the opportunity to see the cloisters of San Domenico and San Francisco, the Orthodox Church or Synagogue. And if we leave the premises medieval one option is to approach the island of Lokrum is a national park with beaches that can be reached by boat in no time. It has many craft stalls for gifts and generally have much artistic value. I liked the paint boxes of artists, from 60 euros you can buy a book (to avoid stalls that are printed). Prices are more expensive than in Greece but cheaper than Venice to give an idea, but in no event is dirt cheap.

Where to eat Dubrovnik - Croatia? - There are many restaurants, bars, pubs and local fast food outlets to choose from. Prices vary widely depending on the category and location, but we can find many small local streets more economical and well priced.

Lot of coastal seafood and fish also like traditional dish sausage and meatballs available to eat, culinary cultures mixed Christian, Muslim and Jewish. I only had time to try waffles, ice cream and coffee, but very rich and well priced.

Places to Visit in Dubrovnik - Croatia - The usual list of recommendations is a mixture of personal experience and comments of guides and others.

1. Walls - The old town of Dubrovnik (Stari Grad) is completely surrounded by a massive walls of the XIIIth and are one of the most repeated images and popular Croatia. You can walk around inside after payment of 10 € (adults).

2. Plate (Stradun) - Main street of Stari Grad, which crosses the famous old town from the Pile Gate (where you can see the statue of St. Blaise, patron of the city) to Luza Square, where we can see the Clock Tower and the column Orlando. Most sights are concentrated in this street or nearby.

3. Sponza Palace - XVIth century palace that houses the State Archives and the Memorial Hall of the Defenders of Dubrovnik. The entrance to the Palace cost about 2 €. More info on the official website (translated with Google Translate). Highlights include the portico of six columns and manuscript collections.

4. Church of San Blas - Baroque church built in honor of the patron of the city. Stands the marble altar.
5. Franciscan and Dominican monasteries - Dubrovnik has two famous monasteries can be visited both house museums and its own faculty. In the Franciscan, in addition, is the third oldest pharmacy in Europe (in operation since 1391).

6. Rector's Palace - The former palace of the rectors, now a museum. Although it has suffered even explosions, has been tastefully restored.

7. Cathedral of the Assumption - Beautiful baroque cathedral. Highlights include the shrine with the relics of San Blas and altars.

8. Islet of Lokrum - This small island, located almost in front of Dubrovnik, ideal for a break of one day (can not stay overnight). Pines, olive trees, oaks and rocky beaches make up the beautiful National Park. Its naturist beach is popular, especially among the gay community. The return ferry costs about 8 €. There is hardly anything to buy food and no cars.

9. Great source of Onofrio - Huge circular fountain with 16 jets. The original building dates back to 1438. It is one of the most emblematic of the city and venue for groups and tours.

10. War Photo Limited - Photo gallery with impressive collections of conflicts. There is a permanent exhibition on the war on the Balkans and several other armed conflicts. Impress and awareness. You can find a guide in Castilian for the meaning of each photo. Approx. 4 € / adult

India - Hampi Tourist Information Guide - Places To Visit Travel Advice

India - Things To Do In Hampi - Travel Advice

Hampi - A paradise without a Beach

One of the most important sacred places and interesting South India, as both Hampi and its surroundings are full of ruins and temples, more than 500, some better preserved than others. And, back in the twelfth to the fifteenth centuries, the then capital of the Vijayanagara Empire was a megalopolis in the Middle Ages had more than 500,000 inhabitants, making it the second largest city in the world then, and that fell due to the invasions of the Mongols.

Today Hampi is just a small town on the banks of a sacred river, to which pilgrims come to wash and purify themselves in a similar manner, although on a smaller scale to what is happening hundreds of miles north on its big brother, the Varanassi majestically on the banks of the Ganges.

Hampi History - To give a little history, I explained that Hampi was the birthplace of Hindu greatest empire of all time, it is said that this empire had about 2000 war elephants, thousands of soldiers and a strength never shot down by any other empire. The strength of this empire was such that even in Sri Lanka pay taxes. Many years passed until the enemies were able to find the exact city of Hampi, and it was a foolish mistake. By invading the peoples of the area, the Hindu empire attacked and butchered the people who did not undergo or who posed a threat. The Mughals surrounded the position, although it took longer to arrive, found their way to the gates of the empire in Hampi, and ended up destroying a whole.

The rest of the time in Hampi was special super general, I visited the Lake where we could swim peacefully as it is an artificial lake, visited the temple of Hannum other day, I walked along the river, bathed in the well, I visited some of the ruins, which are huge and a lot and generally had a week of total relaxation, my plans were well calculated to the end of my visit to India and did not have any hurry to go anywhere.

Stone houses, some built between columns of an ancient temple, many painted white by pedestrian streets that run all sorts of characters, as pilgrims from all over India come to Hampi each with their traditional costumes, some motorcycle and rickshaw and many cows, tourist shops, tailors, restaurants and guest houses, and temples, look where you look there are temples.

The main temple of the ancient Vijayanagara called Virupaksha, is now in very good condition and is both now and in the past a religious center around which Hampi is today. These place Hindu pilgrims come to honor their gods and spend the night in their stone floors.

Hampi main temple full of life during the day, pilgrims praying, walking, eating, singing and, as always, sharing space with the sacred cows.

It's a real experience to approach the temple at dusk, as a party of pilgrims make their stay in the same and after dinner (the food is distributed free by the temple) come together to sing a lot, while others chat with their throw new friends or to sleep on the stone floor, something unthinkable for us but normal to them, as even having bed at home, most choose to sleep on the floor, while others sleep on a bed of ropes intertwined that take to the streets to keep cool, so when you walk from the 22 through the streets of Hampi is finding one with beds and mosquito nets on doors of homes and bodies scattered lumps appear on the floor, above the temple .

The main temple of Hampi at night, where pilgrims find shelter at night, when after dinner and sing their advantage to lie on hard ground, which the Indians are accustomed as many of them do not use sleeping facilities.

To visit all the temples would take several days for a stroll through the village, and discover in every corner ancestral monument, another to walk around the river and climb the rocks that dot the landscape, huge boulders and rounded red for which there is sometimes built temples from which you can enjoy a beautiful sunset, and at least a third day to venture away from knowing the temples, for which it is advisable to take a conveyance, which can be a rickshaw , one for the more sporty bike or a scooter that can be rented all day and is a fun way to learn and self-place and the surrounding villages.

Other side of the river - The other side of the river is a very quiet place, crossing the boats leave at 6 pm with the fall of the sun. Other side of the river got many Guest Houses at a great price, ranging between 150 and 600 rupees. Travellers who have been here before will know that staying on the other side of river is cheap and quiet.

Take a boat and go to the other side of the river for 15 rupees.

Granite rocks -The area around Hampi is impressive. Huge rocks carved and others that are giant pieces start in the old style, with wooden wedges to split them into two. The dozens of temples in the area there are built with these stones without much regard for ground resistance that is common to see temples that twist till they drop.

They reproduce the same interrogation from all over India. There is something that has attracted much attention. Most Indians do not have a clue where Spain is, many have heard of Spain but not located on the map and less embarrassing to ask if you go far away. Most of them are staring trying to search the hard drive of your head any trace of this country. It is amusing to see that in many parts of India where like football, former colonies, when the word Spain appoints respond with that soccer is David Villa. It is the most familiar name but not always pronounce it right.

London Parks and Gardens Tour Travel Advice

London Gardens and Parks - London has got many magnificent Gardens and Parks. The city has managed to combine his character with great urban fantasy maintaining green areas for recreation.

For the tourist, the London parks are an ideal setting to unwind from the bustle of shops and transport and recharge while watching the time pass ... and squirrels.

There are plenty of gardens and parts but these are the few most visited parks

Hyde Park - Old game reserve, was given by King James I to the city of London back in the seventeenth century and is considered the oldest park in the city.

Hyde Park is a park full of life where people walk, sunbathe, sail boat or practiced a thousand sports, from horse riding, rugby, soccer and even skiing on roller skates. It has a huge central lagoon inhabited by various aquatic birds in which you can rent boats.

St. James Park – This park is famous for three things flowers, squirrels and pájaros. Para is the most beautiful park in London and in fact is among the most visited in Europe with nearly 6 million visitors annually. Located in the center, next to St James Palace, Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey and was designed with a French air.

Regent's Park - Converted former hunting reserve in the park in the early nineteenth century, its strength is in roses, which has up to 400 varieties. It is a fine park and in summer a hive of activity.

Other outstanding features are its huge area dedicated to sports facilities and schools, the children's play areas, the villages of the time of Dickens, outdoor theater, several cafes and London Zoo, located in the north.

It has a large pond filled with swans in which you can rent a boat.

Kensington Gardens - Surely the children's favorite park in London, not only for its extensive green areas and ponds full of ducks, but also by hosting a huge playground built in memory of Princess Diana of Wales. The park also has a bronze statue of Peter Pan himself

It is a refined and perfectly manicured park designed for the relaxed pace, sports and leisure in the sun.

Richmond Park - Located in zone 4 is characterized by its variety of fauna deer, squirrels, foxes and a variety of birds. The dimensions of this park make it a unique place to unwind from the hectic business life of London.

Hampstead Heath - This is another park, located on top of a hill, offering spectacular views of the city. Visiting Hampstead in depth, you realize the consequences of plantificación an English garden. In other words, the risk of loss is high (though thanks to some maps that are located in some points, these small problems are avoided).

Stop at the Kenwood House to see his collection of paintings or take a refreshing tea after a long walk.

Holland Park - This park is small in size when compared with other parks, of course. You can visit a whole morning or afternoon. It is characterized by beds of exotic flowers and hidden nooks among its labyrinthine structure and vegetation, making it ideal for an afternoon of reading.

Batter Sea Park - Batter sea is on the south side of the Thames and is a delightful park with decorative influences from the Far East.

Bishop's Park - It lies on the opposite side of Battersea Park, on the north bank of the River Thames. Your beautiful trees along the river make it unique for a leisurely stroll with views.

Outside London - London has so much to see that never have enough days. However, less than two hours round the capital cities and attractions is very interesting, very historic and scenic value that very worthwhile.

Other Places to Visit in London -

I recommend walkable street, walking through the souvenir shops, tea and antiques. We find in it the "Electric", a film that boasts of being the oldest in London, the store "Alice", a lovely shop selling souvenirs, porcelain, etc.. It is also famous library of the movie "Notting Hill", in which Julia Roberts falls for Hugh Grant, but it is locked. However, the side have been very similar. Tube: Ladbroke Grove (Hammersmith & City Line or Circle Line).

Trafalgar Square - This is a huge square. In the center is a column commemorating Lord Nelson's victory against Napoleon at the Battle of Trafalgar (hence the name of the square). It is the National Gallery.

National Gallery - is one of the world's most famous art galleries. It contains a variety of pictures and artists from different eras. The entrance to the ongoing visit is free. Tube: Charing Cross. Hours: 10am - 6pm.

Globe - Although this is the third Globe, as the contemporary of Shakespeare is the first, but it burned down, because it was built of wood. The second Globe was closed by the Puritans. The third is the current Globe and is a replica of Shakespeare. The original Globe was built a little closer to the Tower of London today, on the outskirts of the city (the suburbs).

Harrods - prestigious and glamorous in this store we can find a teddy bear to a diamond or a car. Also on the ground floor is a memorial of Lady Di and Doddy Al Fayed (since the latter's father is the owner of Harrods). If you are looking for one of the famous Harrods bags, get ready money, as the smallest no less than 15 pounds.

Public Transport in London - The city is divided into six concentric zones from a transport point of view, though most travellers only use the 1 and 2. Moreover metro tickets vary in price according to distance and can be purchased at the stations (from 4 pounds).

Buy a "Travel Card" for about 3 days allowing you to use any means of transport in the areas they cover. The cheapest are the "odd peak" are valid only from 9:30 in the morning. If you think stay more days to buy the "Oyster Card" which functions as purse but requires a 3 lbs.

Food in London- The average meal in London is pretty bad. If you eat well you have to spend at least double what you spend in Spain. If you eat hamburgers, go to Hard Rock. First, because even American food is pretty good quality (as in all) is pretty good.

The palace is open daily from 30 July to 7 September, with visits every 15 minutes from 09:30 to 16:15.

Miraculously saved from German bombing of the World War II, contains an excellent art collection from the medieval to Victorian times.

We love to climb to the top from where you can see a beautiful image of the city. Up is an adventure: 560 steps in a narrow hallway, ideal if you are going with children. The climb takes about half an hour, so you better id if you are in a good mood. The pictures from above make it worthwhile.
